Este siglo nos enfrentaremos a retos absolutamente enormes para eliminar del aire el di\u00f3xido de carbono y otros gases de efecto invernadero. Hay ingenieros que trabajan sin descanso en la construcci\u00f3n de m\u00e1quinas para la captura directa del aire, que captar\u00e1n el CO2 y lo pondr\u00e1n en ladrillos que podr\u00edamos enterrar. Otros quieren utilizar los oc\u00e9anos para absorber el di\u00f3xido de carbono. Pero de todas las opciones existentes, la m\u00e1s noble es el secuestro de carbono a partir de plantas, porque es utilizar y aprender del or\u00e1culo de todo conocimiento: la naturaleza. Milenios de evoluci\u00f3n han hecho que la naturaleza haya aprendido todos los trucos posibles. Lo ha intentado, ha fracasado, lo ha vuelto a intentar y ha perfeccionado procesos que han regulado con tanta elegancia el clima de nuestro planeta hasta que llegamos los humanos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Me hace enormemente feliz dar la bienvenida a los Becarios de Secuestro de Carbono a la Alianza de Bioversity International y el CIAT, me siento orgulloso de que el <em>Bezos Earth Fund<\/em> est\u00e9 apoyando esta iniciativa. Habiendo comenzado mi carrera en el CGIAR como becario hace m\u00e1s de 23 a\u00f1os, recuerdo con cari\u00f1o aquellos primeros a\u00f1os como un periodo de enorme aprendizaje y decisivo para ayudarme a llegar a donde estoy hoy.
